Reporting to the Maintenance superintendent, the Chief Power Engineer preferably holds a First Class Power Engineer license in the province of British Columbia. Power engineers operate, maintain, and manage industrial plants that use equipment such as boilers and refrigeration units. In every Canadian province and territory, only certified power engineers are permitted to operate such equipment.

What the Role Entails
Operates boilers and auxiliary equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
Observes and records readings from all meters and gauges for steam pressure, steam consumption, fuel consumption, water consumption and power consumption.
Carries out duties laid down by the Department of Labor such as reporting accidents, explosions and damages to pressure vessels.
Understands the various uses of firefighting equipment and is familiar with local fire regulations.
Responsible for the operation of mechanical equipment and the repair of buildings during an assigned period.
Oversees the maintenance of the utilities network (gas, water, sewer)
Performs emergency duties if required.
Test runs standby electric generator and fire pumps.
Checks proper functioning of water pumps, water treatment equipment, sewage disposal plants and sprinkler systems, etc.
Work as a member of the technical team and as the area representative for various engineering projects related.
Oversees and manages the work of contractors and ensures payment.
Attends regular planning meetings and other meetings as required.
Manages and forecasts costs for his assigned sector.
Participates and leads continuous improvement projects.
Leads practical problem solving workshops with other team members and trades.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Working on a 12 hour day-shift schedule: 6:00AM to 6:00PM. 4 shifts on, and 4 shifts off. Please note, this is not a fly-in fly-out position.
What you will need for this role:
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of power plant operation and the maintenance of associated equipment.
Skill and ability in the control and operation of boilers and auxiliary equipment.
Ability to keep neat records and prepare routine operating reports.
Ability to carry out running repairs on all steam, gas, oil, electrical, refrigeration and pneumatic equipment.
Ability to carry out written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work well with and provide support to plant supervision and production employees.
Education, Training and Experience
High school diploma completed
Possession of the British Columbia First Class Power Engineer Certification
Water treatment plant certification
Physically capable of performing the duties assigned.
