The Opportunity

 

We are looking for Operators, on temporary contracts, to fill multiple roles in our Reduction, Carbon, Casting and Plant Services departments.  You will join the Kitimat Smelter and / or Plant Services team and participate in the safe operation of one of the largest smelting operations in the world.

 

Located in the Kitimat district of British Columbia, the Kitimat, Kemano and Watershed operations continue to help drive the region’s economic development. At Kitimat, we are committed to reducing emissions through innovative technology whilst delivering some of the highest quality aluminium around the world.

 

What the role entails

 

This role is a great opportunity for a career-oriented individual with passion for working safely and intelligently. Working on a rotating 12 hour shifts roster and reporting to the Supervisor - Operations, you will be:

  • Actively engaging with employees in discussions and initiatives that keep everyone safe and promote the “Zero Harm” safety culture
  • Receiving instructions from Supervisors and other leaders related to operating or controlling assigned equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures
  •  Checking for proper and safe functioning of assigned equipment while keeping work area and equipment clean

 

What you will need for this role

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. and to wear heavy personal protective equipment while working in operational areas
  • A constant commitment to approaching tasks safely and intelligently, and to keeping others safe
  • Ability to work rotating 12 hour shifts (both days and nights)

 

It will also be beneficial if you have:

  • Prior work experience in an industrial setting
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Class 5 or Class 7 (minimum) provincial driver’s license.
